I got my hands on B.o.B.’s most recent mixtape No Genre when it dropped last week, but until now my ears had yet to sit down with it and give it a legitimate analysis. No Genre represents B.o.B.’s first collection of work since his absurdly successful debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray. With that in mind, a lot of the mixtape represents his current mindset, and what it’s been like to explode onto the mainstream airwaves as fast as he did. He’s been making music for years, and for people just to start appreciating and recognizing him seems to have fueled the emotion behind this tape. You heard this on “Beast Mode”…and it’s prominent throughout the collection of songs. It’s a different sound then the album; it’s more raw and to the point…which is refreshing to see from an artist that just recently made it huge.
Hit one of my favorite tracks off the mixtape below, “Shoot Up The Station” (which samples a Santigold track), and then download the mixtape in it’s entirety here.
