I have a feeling that Turntable.fm is the beginning of a revolution. I just spent the last 3 hours with one other buddy, and 3 random dudes I’ve never met, DJ’ing for a packed house of like…2 people. Straight up the most fun I’ve had online in years. I’m either a complete and utter tool, or this site is onto something. I’m siding with the latter, as everyone else I know who’s seen it has fallen in love.

I was introduced to it about 2 weeks ago, and I was laughing hysterically at the concept before I even got started. Essentially how it works is you join a virtual room that contains 5 DJ slots, and you just start spinning tunes for whoever is in the room. If there are five DJ’s up front, each person has their own personal queue, and gets to play one track. Then it’s the next person’s turn, and you just go down the line. The listeners (and other DJ’s) can click “Lame” or “Awesome”, depending on whether or not they like what’s being played. If somebody clicks “Awesome” on your song, their little avatar’s head starts bopping, and you get a point. If they click “Lame”, you run the risk of getting booted off stage. If you’re in a room and you don’t like what’s being played, just leave and find another one. The concept is simple, but it’s obnoxiously fun.

The key ingredient to the whole application is the basic chatbox on the right side, in which you just shoot the shit with whoever is in the room. There was a maximum of like 8 people in our room, including the 5 DJ’s, but we were all sharing our music and introducing each other to new material. Some rooms get upwards of 250 people raging the night away. It’s just an awesome way to randomly come across new tracks that you otherwise would never find.

So yeah, go to Turntable.fm, create an account, start raging, and try to tell me that it’s not incredible.
