MONSTA is a three-piece crew (Skaar, Rocky and Rufio) that’s right on the cusp of taking over the globe. I grew acquainted with them via “Figure 8″ — one of my favorite tracks off Ellie Goulding’s latest album Halcyon. The song has some ever so slight bass-heavy/dubstep influences, and it was brought to my attention that the track was produced by these guys. What separates MONSTA from the thousands of other wobbly producers out there is the fact that while it sounds like they use samples, they really just have a ridiculously talented, original vocalist (Skaar) at their disposal. They produce, they sing, they’re signed to Skrillex’s indie label OWSLA, and they just released their debut, self-titled EP to the world. Start with the lead single “Holdin’ On” below, and work your way through the rest of the project — it’s all gold.
