The Airplane Boys – Dictate

The Airplane Boys are a hip-hop duo coming out of Toronto, and they’re brand new on my radar. They’re slated to do a set at Coachella and SXSW, and seem to be known for their dark, ominous, electronic-infused production. “Dictate” is coming off their upcoming project Alignment, and it comes off somewhere in between dark as hell yet catchy. We into this? [via Hypetrak] Tweet

Super Mash Bros. – ¡Holy Guacamole!

Guilty pleasure city. Super Mash Bros. went quiet for a period of time after their meteoric rise in the collegiate music market. They struck gold right at the time when college kids fucking loved mash-ups, and rode the wave. “¡Holy Guacamole!” is the first release from them in a while, and it’s still obvious that they’re in the elite of the “genre”. The mash-up hysteria has died down since, but  I still respect the hell out of the ability to fuse together so many songs into one fluid track. Like them on Facebook to download their most recent project, Miley High … Continue reading

Foxes – Youth (Adventure Club Remix)

Upon first hearing Foxes’ “Youth”, I would’ve never seen it getting this much remix attention. Don’t get me wrong, the original is a great song — but it wasn’t screaming REMIX ME like some other songs do. Handfuls of producers out there beg to differ. Adventure Club is the latest to take it on — and this one might be a clear favorite for me. Crisp production, not too much over-the-top womp — a thing of beauty. Check it out below. Big K.R.I.T. – Boobie Miles

Big K.R.I.T. is one of the more talked about up-and-comers on the hip-hop scene, and the Mississippi native just released “Boobie Miles” to gear up his fans for his upcoming project, 4evaNaDay. Gotta love the Friday Night Lights reference here — and the smooth, soulful production fits his Southern style to a T. Stream and download below. Tweet

Gotye – Eyes Wide Open (Live on Jimmy Kimmel)

Back in October of 2010, I came across a captivating track in the blogosphere by a then relatively unknown Australian singer. “Eyes Wide Open” was one of those songs that stuck with me from the very first play, and over a year later it still has the same effect. Now, in 2012, he’s performing “Eyes Wide Open” for the masses on Jimmy Kimmel, and it sounds better then ever. Do yourselves a favor and pick up his debut album Making Mirrors, one of the better debuts I’ve heard in a while. It’s such a great feeling to see an artist … Continue reading

The Hood Internet – Nightchain (Wale vs. Kavinsky)

I watched Drive for the second time last night, and there are a handful of things that I still can’t get over. The unbelievably graphic elevator scene, the sneaky-great soundtrack, and Ron Perlman’s UNCANNY RESEMBLANCE to a baboon. The shit is mindblowing. Anyways, The Hood Internet have decided to mash up one of the tracks from Drive, Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” with Wale’s “Chain Music”. The result is working for me at the moment. Check it out below, and go compare some pictures of baboons to the man above. No disrespect Mr. Perlman, you were a boss in that film. [via Pigeons & … Continue reading

The Young Professionals – Video Games (Lana Del Rey Cover)

Lana Del Rey remixes are clearly overdone, that’s not a question. This isn’t a remix though, and as a cover, it deserves your attention. The Young Professionals take Lana’s dark, gloomy anthem and inject it with an upbeat pop sound that demands to be heard. Apparently it’s only available via streaming on their Facebook page at the moment, or the YouTube video below. Check it out world. Anybody fiending for a Born To Die review? Tweet

Emeli Sandé – Heaven (Official Video)

Whoa — not quite sure how this one slipped under the radar. Emeli Sandé is this smooth Scottish R&B singer who’s just pulled the rug out from under me. As far as comparisons go, I’m coming up empty. She’s like this Janelle Monae/Beyoncé hybrid that’s heavily influenced by the jazz/breakbeat scene. Anyone? Maybe? I don’t care, this shit deserves to be recognized. Watch the official video for her debut single below. Tweet

St. Lucia – We Got It Wrong (Xaphoon Jones Remix)

Xaphoon Jones has jumped on the official remix train for St. Lucia’s new single, and he’s lathered the track up with his token glitchy, synthed-out vibe. “We Got It Wrong” has been given the remix treatment from Starsmith (Ellie Goulding’s producer), Xaphoon Jones, and Lenno — all of which are available in one tightly-knit package on iTunes today thanks to Neon Gold. Glory. Oh, and if you don’t have your tickets yet, be sure to catch St. Lucia live along with The Knocks, Savoir Adore and Magic Man in Boston on March 2nd. Don’t say I didn’t tell you. Tickets … Continue reading

Kid Cudi – Teleport 2 Me, Jamie

Whenever a hip-hop artist attempts to make a “rock” album, the shit sucks. That’s a proven fact. We’re lucky then that I can’t really consider Kid Cudi to be a “rapper”. He’s always been too spacey and weird to be contained in a stereotypical genre like that. The uneducated say that his upcoming WZRD album is him attempting to go the rock route — but again, he’s too bizarre to just attempt a rock album. I see it as him wanting to explore other sounds and mess with different kinds of productions from what he’s grown accustomed to. With that … Continue reading
