Cris Cab – Echo Boom (Mixtape)

Cris Cab has put together his his most note-worthy collection of songs to date in the form of his latest mixtape, Echo Boom. The anticipated project is presented by Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club, and features production from the likes of Wyclef Jean, 88-Keys, and Pharrell himself. This is clearly the most “official” project we’ve seen from the 18 year-old Miami native, and it’s bound to serve as his stepping stone to mainstream success. Stream it below via Soundcloud, and hit the download link to grab the project in it’s entirety. Download: Cris Cab – Echo Boom (Mixtape) Tweet

One Room – Believe

One Room is back in the building. The mystery man (men?) sneakily crept up on the blogosphere back at the end of last year with “I Want You” (check my CSI Miami skills as to who’s behind One Room), and made another splash with “Wait”. The latest release follows the trend of spacey, The Weeknd-esque vibes, and it’s established the act as something to legitimately keep an eye on. While we only have heard three tracks from One Room, he/they have my attention. [premiered over at Sunset In The Rearview] Tweet

Conner Youngblood – Sketches Pt. 1 (Mixtape)

Conner Youngblood is one of the few up and coming artists who has managed to strike a chord with me with every one of his tracks released to date. Granted, he has a limited catalog as of now, but it’s still a noteworthy accomplishment in my book. “A Summer Song” and “Australia” continue to get significant spins in my world. Last week he decided to expand his catalog, and dropped a mixtape on our heads. I’m just getting around to listening, and per usual, I can’t get enough. Keep an eye out for this dude via his Facebook and Twitter, … Continue reading

M.I.A. – Bad Girls

There’s no way M.I.A. can top the addictive x-factor of “Paper Planes”, and it’ll be borderline impossible for her to top that level of commercial success. If it’s been a couple years, listen to that song again…shit is too good. With 2012 comes a new album from the Sri Lankan Tamil descendant, and “Bad Girls” is our first look at her new material. It’s too much to ask for it to live up to “Paper Planes” — but do you see yourself listening to this at all after that first initial spin? Pitchfork with the premiere. Tweet

Pretty Lights – We Must Go On

Pretty Lights had a huge year in 2011. That being said, it’s clear he’s decided to start 2012 off with a power move. In my mind, “We Must Go On” is arguably his best single since “Finally Moving”. In fact, when you take a look at the vocal samples and general composition, it’s abnormally similar to “Finally Moving”. There’s no real heavy “drop” per se, rather, it’s a well-crafted instrumental that’s perfect for getting shit done. You know how there’s music out there that seems like it was composed simply so you could hone in and complete whatever task it … Continue reading

Frank Ocean – Voodoo

The weekend’s winding down, so we might as well slow the pace down with a new 1:37 Frank Ocean drop. This is clearly not finished, but as an avid supporter of Mr. Ocean I have a duty to spread this around to the people. Can I spark a little argument for a minute? I realize it’s overdone, but I want to lay to rest the Frank Ocean vs. The Weeknd debate. Granted, they’re two completely different artists — but who do you find yourself listening to more? I need some opinions on this one. [Audio clip: view full post to … Continue reading

Electric Guest – This Head I Hold

I know nothing about Electric Guest. Word on the street is their debut album, titled Mondo, is produced by Danger Mouse. This is note-worthy for a handful of reasons, but generally because everything Danger Mouse touches turns to gold. He formed Gnarls Barkley. He formed Broken Bells. Remember that mashup album of Jay-Z’s The Black Album and The Beatles’ White Album? That was him too. He just knows how to put together hit records, whether or not they appeal to the mainstream masses. Anyways, check out his work with Electric Guest — sounds promising to me. Terence Ryan – Skeleton EP

Terence Ryan, the kid with the impressive video for “Alan’s Right” which we shared with you all last week, just released his full Skeleton EP for the masses. Everything is handled by Mr. Ryan, from the production, to the writing, to the vocals. This is an eye-opening project, especially when you consider that I knew nothing about him whatsoever two weeks ago. The production is crisp, and he sounds like an artist who’s been doing this shit for a while. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open for him down the line. Stream/download the project in it’s entirety below. Tweet

Cris Cab – Rihanna’s Gun (feat. Mavado & Wyclef)

Echo Boom isĀ gonna be something serious. Seriously, whoever put the connection together that Cris Cab needed to work with Wyclef deserves some kind of award. It’s such a natural, obvious pairing, and “Rihanna’s Gun” is a prime example of why they should continue working together. Did Wyclef toss in a hint of heavy dubstep bass there too? Just for a second? Yes, yes, I believe he did. Echo Boom due out Tuesday, 1/31. Tweet

The Knocks, Savoir Adore, St. Lucia & Magic Man Live @ The Middle East – Boston 3/2/12

Alright my friends, you’re gonna want to mark your calendars for Friday, March 2nd. We teamed up with Neon Gold Records to co-present the Boston leg of their inaugural Neon Gold Tour, which is bound to be something special. Like last October’s show, we’re bringing The Knocks back to town as the headlining act. On top of that, we have three dynamite opening bands to support them. St. Lucia has been a personal favorite of mine for months now, and they’re fresh off signing their multi-album deal with Columbia Records and Neon Gold. Savoir Adore took the internet machine by … Continue reading
