Tennis – My Better Self

Tennis came out of nowhere and put me back in the 50′s with their release of “Marathon” back in 2010. Since then, they’ve been able to build a significantly loyal fanbase, and they’ve established themselves as one of the premier “indie” bands coming on the scene. They’re gearing up to release their second album Young & Old, and “My Better Self” is a great look into what the album’s got to offer. If you want to add some flare to your music library, your first step should be getting involved with this crew. Tweet

PAPA – I Am The Lion King (St. Lucia Remix)

Could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I heard this in Scarface the other night on FX. Clearly it wasn’t on the soundtrack, but damn it would fit in perfectly. Or maybe just anything synth-pop oriented would fit in seamlessly in that movie. I just imagine the club scenes with “Rush Rush” blasting in the background, and for whatever reason, some of this modern synth-pop that’s coming out these days has the same vibe. Is that the worst comparison of all time? Yeah that was terrible. Anyways, I dig PAPA’s original track here, and St. Lucia’s remix skills are perfect. … Continue reading

Yuna – Live Your Life (prod. Pharrell Williams)

Pharrell has his hands in EVERYTHING these days. 75% of the upcoming projects I read about, he’s doing some sort of executive producing — chipping in any way he can. Mansions On The Moon? Check. Cris Cab? Check. Yuna? Yessir. The man has branched out from the hip-hop scene, there’s no question. I like what’s going on with this track. You can pretty easily tell it’s Pharrell’s beat — very N.E.R.D.-esque, but Yuna’s soft vocals calm it down and make for a soothing listen. Be on the lookout for her upcoming, self-titled album. Notorious B.I.G. – Going Back To Cali (Viceroy “Jet Life” Remix)

For most of us, January equates to frigid temperatures, dry skin, and not a whole lot of vitamin D. Viceroy apparently didn’t get the memo. On his latest remix, the San Francisco native injects Notorious B.I.G.’s anthem with feel-good summery vibes like you read about. Close your eyes for roughly 4 seconds and you’ll be on a beach somewhere warm. That’s the truth. Tweet

Star Slinger – Jet Jam Mixtape #1

Star Slinger has a serious cult following. He looks like some kind of earthy geologist, but he makes these dynamite glitchy remixes that people swoon over. My first encounter with him came via his remix of Alex Winston’s “Sister Wife”, and then I was fully sold when I got my ears on “May I Walk With You?”. His music taste and remix resume are outrageously diverse, so I wasn’t surprised in the slightest to see him putting out a little hip-hop mixtape. The tape goes back and forth between his personal remixes and underground hip-hop jams, and I’ve been listening … Continue reading

Justice – On’N'On (Ruined By Rick Rubin)

World famous producer Rick Rubin sarcastically proclaimed that he “ruined” this track from Justice in his official remix. Which is funny, because it’s sarcasm. If you listen to any form of music, you’ve crossed paths with Rick Rubin before. Do yourself a favor and check out his resume. Once you’re done there, give his little Justice remix a listen below. Maison & Dragen – Rio De Janeiro (Radio Edit)

These jabronis need to step up their photography game a bit here — but damn this track has some potential. By potential, I mean that it’s got the X-factor to rip through college campuses on a grand scale — and that’s all anybody really cares about these days right? Too catchy for words. Anyways, this Finnish duo is on the up-and-up in the progressive house/electro world, and this track is the perfect demonstration of their talents. Available on Beatport for purchase. Tweet

Adventure Club – Do I See Color

Adventure Club own the rights to one of my favorite remixes of the past few years — their take on James Vincent McMorrow’s “We Don’t Sleep”. To this date, their realm hasn’t gone outside the lines of the remix game, but they’ve just graced us with their first piece of original work. “Do I See Color” is an impressive couple of minutes of glitchy electronic music — and it’s found it’s way into a consistent part of my library. Check it out below. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Adventure Club – Do I See Color [via The … Continue reading

Bon Joviver – You Give Love A Bad Name

So this has been making all the rounds on the world wide interwebs today, and for good reason. Creativity defeats all. Kinda wish we had the whole song to work with here — but it’s hysterical and awesome nonetheless. Tweet

Chairlift – I Belong In Your Arms

The Brooklyn duo known as Chairlift is back with their sophomore full-length album, Something. I haven’t had the chance to get my hands on the album in it’s entirety yet, but “I Belong In Your Arms” is all I need to know that it’ll be worth picking up. Co-written by our favorite party-starters The Knocks, the track serves as the perfect city walk-around song. You know those tracks that are just ideal for putting on full blast and cruising around the city on your two feet? This one fits the bill. Stream below, and pick it up as the current … Continue reading
