LA’s Family Of The Year have just released their first single off of their upcoming EP titled Family Of The Year, and it’s got my attention. It’s a breezy, pop anthem that deserves to be recognized by the masses. Keep an eye out on September 27th for the release of the EP, and let me know what you think. [via Some Kind Of Awesome] Tweet
Here we have the first look at Florence + The Machine’s upcoming sophomore effort. “What The Water Gave Me” is not the stadium anthem that say, “Dog Days Are Over” has proven to be, but the style and buildup of this one is similar to the the majority of the songs on their debut album. Stream it below, and pick it up on iTunes. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Tweet
CSS is a Brazilian electro-rock, five-piece band from Sao Paulo. Apparently CSS stands for “Cansei de Ser Sexy”, which translates in English to “Tired of Being Sexy”. That is all. Thank you Wikipedia. On “Red Alert”, they’ve recruited the ever-popular production duo, Ratatat, to take care of the beat. Not going to lie, there’s no way I would’ve pressed play on this one without knowledge of that feature, but I’m glad I did. The next move is for me to head over to SPIN to stream their new album La Liberación for free. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] … Continue reading
Futurecop! (yeah the exclamation point is a part of the band name) comes out of the UK, and they have absolutely mastered the synth-pop feel with “N.A.S.A.”. This track right here is somewhat of a remix of the original, as they’ve recruited Chicago hip-hop duo Christian Rich to spice things up. They compliment the instrumental flawlessly, and add an entirely new vibe and style to an already stellar track. Jump all over this one. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Futurecop! Two days ago I was hanging around in the dark depths of the internet, and I fell into a trap. I was faced with Christina Perri’s official music video for her next single “Arms”, and I was curious. I pressed play. I loved it. Motherfucker. I honestly had no chance. The melodies, her soothing voice, her badass tats. I was utterly helpless. Fast-forward two days, and we just had an earthquake in Boston. Evacuating buildings and shit. Granted the destruction was equivalent to a fallen over lawn chair, but it was an earthquake nonetheless. Digging Christina Perri’s new single, earthquakes … Continue reading
Just in case you didn’t believe that Converse actually got these three acts together in one room. I’m glad the visuals lived up to my expectations for one of the most bizarre videos of the year. Tweet
Not many gems are flooding through the music pipelines these past couple of days, but this Adele and Skrillex mash-up is working for me. And by working for me, I mean it’s weirding me out. As it usually works, there’s no way these two should ever be remixed together on paper, but ca7 pulls it off. The Rapture is an odd collection of dudes, that put out music with a kind of dance/punk/pop/rock flair. Their last album, Echoes, was named Pitchfork’s Best Album of 2003, for those of you that live and breathe everything Pitchfork. “How Deep Is Your Love?” is their choice as the first single for the soon-to-be-released In The Grace of Your Love. At 6:28, this one’s no picnic, but it’s progression and build-up is good on the ears. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love? Tweet
Been a while since I’ve gotten a hold of some new, hungry hip-hop. Watch The Throne is what it is, and I can’t deny the airplay I’m giving it, but I wouldn’t say it’s hungry. Jay and Kanye have already made it, and they’ve been at the top for years now. There’s something to be said for young, hungry hip-hop artists. In my mind, that’s when it’s at it’s best. Yung Nate is out of Harlem, and he’s in the midst of his #FREEMUSIC campaign in which he’s firing out tracks left and right. His most recent, “Hands Up High”, … Continue reading
