J. Cole – Grew Up Fast

J. Cole’s been quiet since riding the success of his debut album, but he’s just come out of the woodwork this morning with a new release. “Grew Up Fast” features some soulful production, and Cole’s lyrical game apparently hasn’t missed a step since the album release. Add it to the library. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: J. Cole – Grew Up Fast Tweet

Juicy J. (feat. Wiz Khalifa & Chevy Woods) – Cup

It’s been a bit since the days of Wiz Khalifa dropping new tracks left and right for the hell of it. In fact, it’s been unbelievably quiet from his camp for the past couple of months. Last week, Wiz came out of the blue and said that creatively, his debut album Rolling Papers was a letdown in his mind. “The mistake i made on Rolling Papers was thinking it was time to move on from that genre not knowing that it had impacted people so much. The album did great numbers, but creatively wasn’t my best work. No regrets though. … Continue reading

Santigold – Disparate Youth

Santigold’s newest single, “Disparate Youth” will propel some big numbers for her forthcoming album, there’s no question. If Master Of My Make-Believe is littered with tracks like this, it’s gonna be a problem. To be honest, “Big Mouth” didn’t really do it for me, but this one has me highly anticipating the release. The album’s due to hit shelves on May 1st. Tweet

Spree Wilson – Rare Moments

Spree Wilson continues to put his eclectic sound on full display. Every song I’ve heard from this guy is completely different, and it’s refreshing as hell to find an artist that can maintain a captivating sound, all while testing out different musical styles. He slows it down a bit on his latest, “Rare Moments”, and according to Spree, it’s his favorite record he’s ever written. That should be more than enough to justify you hitting the stream and download below. Keep on the lookout for his upcoming mixtape The Spark. [premiered at American Songwriter] Tweet

G-Eazy – Marilyn (feat. Dominique LeJeune)

A new track from G-Eazy’s camp, and it maintains his mastery of intertwining the indie world with hip-hop. I’ll let him explain below: “Here’s my new song ‘Marilyn’ featuring New Orleans’ indie songstress Dominique LeJeune. After seeing her play at a small DIY backyard concert and being blown away, I tracked her down and brought her to my studio. The outcome was an extremely personal song about the highs and lows of an intense relationship. This is the first single off my upcoming album – which I’m working on daily. So I’ll keep you posted for more updates about the … Continue reading

KiD CuDi – Dose Of Dopeness

Cudi’s fans are getting ready for the release of his attempted “rock” project, but with WZRD not due out until the end of the month (2/28), the blogosphere’s gotten their hands on some unreleased material to tide us over. Recorded back in 2008, “Dose Of Dopeness” features production from Dot Da Genius, and not surprisingly, sounds as if it would fit in perfectly on his debut album. Chiddy Bang – Grab A Plate

Chiddy Bang’s grandiose moment comes tomorrow, with their official release for their debut album Breakfast. In the meantime, they’re dishing us a little side dish with “Grab A Plate”, a leftover track that won’t be featuring on the final album. All good to me though. It’s been a long time coming for these two — should be exciting to see where Breakfast takes them. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Chiddy Bang – Grab A Plate Tweet

RefinedHype Presents: Overlooked

Written by Nathan from Refined Hype: First and foremost, no, I don’t want to hear your “Lord Knows” freestyle. Sweet baby jesus knows I already have an inbox full of questionable hip-hop without having to listen to some shit you recorded off your iPhone. Big K.R.I.T. gets his new “KING Pt. 2” freestyle posted and you don’t because he’s Big K.R.I.T. and you’re not. Got it? Ok, cool, just wanted to make sure I set down the ground rules first. Anyway….while we continue to wait for “4EvaNaDay”, allegedly dropping on March 5, Krizza takes a moment to get back to his more … Continue reading

OnCue – Rich Kid (prod. by Brenton Duvall & CJ Luzi)

I’ll let Brenton do the talking on this one. “I sent this shit to OnCue about two months ago. When we were first working with it, it sounded super swaggy. Some Houston x Brooklyn shit. I don’t know what it was really, but I really fucked with the feel of the track. I was sampling this, to begin with. Anyway,  what started out as a quick, fun track eventually evolved into something a whole lot better. Once CJ got his hands on the beat, it really got taken to the next level. This is definitely the best shit I’ve ever been a part of and … Continue reading
