Mansions On The Moon – Lightyears EP

As promised, today brings the full release of Mansions On The Moon’s EP Lightyears. If you’ve been keeping up, then you’ve already heard all five tracks off this mini-album — if not, then here you have them in all their glory. Lightyears is a great representation of what these guys are about — each track is different in it’s own right, yet they all incorporate the same spacey vibe that we’ve grown accustomed to. I look forward to seeing where they’re headed down the line. Stream/download the project in it’s entirety below. Tweet

Mansions On The Moon – Take A Look

Mansions On The Moon have been slowly releasing a handful of tracks from their upcoming EP Lightyears for the past few weeks now. “Take A Look” serves as the last pre-release we’ll have before the album officially hits stores tomorrow. This one follows the zone-out-inducing trend that their other material offers, and has me expecting big things from the project. Combining Pharrell as executive producer with a bunch of zone-out melodies has been a recipe for success so far, and Lightyears should prove no different. Check back for an official album stream tomorrow if/when it becomes available. Tweet

Rai Knight’s Top 5 Tracks Of The Moment

I don’t know if I’m just a strange breed, but I’ve always had this infatuation with what my favorite artists are listening to at the moment. Knowing what tracks musicians themselves are actually fans of is always intriguing to me. I remember getting weirdly fired up when Rolling Stone or other publications would run articles showcasing some big time artist’s favorite records. Everybody eats that shit up right? Maybe? Okay cool. We got Spree Wilson, Sol and Brenton Duvall’s best tracks of 2011 earlier — now it’s on to the next. Enter Detroit’s own Rai Knight. Her anthem “New New” is still … Continue reading

Spree Wilson – Sharp Shooter

Spree’s putting together a hell of a music catalogue here — and “Sharp Shooter” keeps the trend going. If there’s anything I can say about this guy, it’s that he has a knack for stringing together captivating melodies. Take a look at “Transition”, “Eye Know” and “King Shit”, and you’ll be a legitimate fan within 15 minutes. Big things on the horizon — I’m looking forward to what’s coming his way. Miike Snow – Paddling Out (Official Video)

Here we have the official video for Miike Snow’s infectious “Paddling Out”, off their upcoming album — and it’s weird as HELL. It begins with an empty whiskey bottle on the ground, labeled “Banana Juice” — and continues to follow some overweight version of William H. Macy in Shameless as he gets grotesquely operated on by a crew of horrifying Quaker-like young girls. Dancing is involved. So yeah, that is all. Check it out. Tweet

Foxes – Youth (Adventure Club Remix)

Upon first hearing Foxes’ “Youth”, I would’ve never seen it getting this much remix attention. Don’t get me wrong, the original is a great song — but it wasn’t screaming REMIX ME like some other songs do. Handfuls of producers out there beg to differ. Adventure Club is the latest to take it on — and this one might be a clear favorite for me. Crisp production, not too much over-the-top womp — a thing of beauty. Check it out below. Emeli Sandé – Heaven (Official Video)

Whoa — not quite sure how this one slipped under the radar. Emeli Sandé is this smooth Scottish R&B singer who’s just pulled the rug out from under me. As far as comparisons go, I’m coming up empty. She’s like this Janelle Monae/Beyoncé hybrid that’s heavily influenced by the jazz/breakbeat scene. Anyone? Maybe? I don’t care, this shit deserves to be recognized. Watch the official video for her debut single below. Tweet

St. Lucia – We Got It Wrong (Xaphoon Jones Remix)

Xaphoon Jones has jumped on the official remix train for St. Lucia’s new single, and he’s lathered the track up with his token glitchy, synthed-out vibe. “We Got It Wrong” has been given the remix treatment from Starsmith (Ellie Goulding’s producer), Xaphoon Jones, and Lenno — all of which are available in one tightly-knit package on iTunes today thanks to Neon Gold. Glory. Oh, and if you don’t have your tickets yet, be sure to catch St. Lucia live along with The Knocks, Savoir Adore and Magic Man in Boston on March 2nd. Don’t say I didn’t tell you. Tickets … Continue reading

Kid Cudi – Teleport 2 Me, Jamie

Whenever a hip-hop artist attempts to make a “rock” album, the shit sucks. That’s a proven fact. We’re lucky then that I can’t really consider Kid Cudi to be a “rapper”. He’s always been too spacey and weird to be contained in a stereotypical genre like that. The uneducated say that his upcoming WZRD album is him attempting to go the rock route — but again, he’s too bizarre to just attempt a rock album. I see it as him wanting to explore other sounds and mess with different kinds of productions from what he’s grown accustomed to. With that … Continue reading

Pretty Lights – We Must Go On

Pretty Lights had a huge year in 2011. That being said, it’s clear he’s decided to start 2012 off with a power move. In my mind, “We Must Go On” is arguably his best single since “Finally Moving”. In fact, when you take a look at the vocal samples and general composition, it’s abnormally similar to “Finally Moving”. There’s no real heavy “drop” per se, rather, it’s a well-crafted instrumental that’s perfect for getting shit done. You know how there’s music out there that seems like it was composed simply so you could hone in and complete whatever task it … Continue reading
