Ellie Goulding – Lights (RAC Remix)

I’ve received a fair amount of shit from my roommate for continuously posting the photo of me and Ellie whenever I do a post of one of her tracks, and although it’s difficult, I’m opting for another picture here. “Lights” has been one of the most remixed songs of the year, to the point where I really struggle to listen to any version of the song whatsoever now. What used to be a clear-cut favorite of mine has now been remixed and sampled and remixed again, to the point where I had no choice but to move on. That is … Continue reading

St. Lucia – All Eyes On You

It’s fitting that on Friday morning, I come across arguably my favorite track I’ve heard this week. That’s saying a lot, cause this has been a huge week for jams. The Knocks’ mini-label, HeavyRoc Music, recently signed St. Lucia to their family, and while the world has only heard two of his tracks, I can certifiably say that he’s got something special. I previously posted his first song “This Old House”, which was a hell of a debut. With all due respect to his first song, “All Eyes On You” absolutely blows it out of the water. These 4:39 seconds will … Continue reading

New Navy – Zimbabwe

I’ve continued to come back to this jam for the past week or so, and I can’t quite piece together why. Upon an initial listen, I enjoy it, but nothing screams that it has to be replayed. For a reason unknown, it’s continuously getting love over here. Could be the opening guitar riff, could be the African drum-sesh at the 2 minute section…I haven’t quite pin-pointed where the attraction lies. That being said, it deserves to be shared. If you find yourself experiencing the same feelings, hit up their Bandcamp page to pick up their debut EP “Uluwatu”. [Audio clip: … Continue reading

Real Estate – It’s Real

Wednesday afternoon is always a good time to slow it down a bit around here. Being halfway through the week is always worthy of some wind-down time, and today it comes in the form of a new, relatively undiscovered band by the name of Real Estate. The Ridgewood, NJ natives capture the easy-listening indie pop flair flawlessly on “It’s Real”; making it a track that you can listen to several times in a row without really noticing. Let me know what you guys think. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Real Estate – It’s Real [via Pretty Much … Continue reading

M83 – Midnight City

Not so sure what to say about the cover art for this one. Just looking at this ghoul makes me uncomfortable — but hey, M83 wanted the hideous bro with the weird dick nose for his cover, so he got the hideous bro with the weird dick nose for his cover. Can’t fault him for that. If M83 sounds familiar, it’s because the experimental/electro act absolutely took me over with “We Own The Sky”. It’s one of those songs that sticks with you; and for some reason I explicitly remember discovering the song, and walking around NYC during my internship … Continue reading

Athletes In Paris – Borrowed Time

Cosine Records sent over this beauty this morning, packaged together with Atlas Genius’ “Trojans”, which is easily one of my favorite tracks of the summer. That alone was reason enough for me to check it out. The band is comprised of, surprisingly, absolutely no athletes in Paris. Instead, they’re made up of 5 guys from the Northeast section of England, right around Newcastle. According to their Facebook description: “Athletes In Paris come from the Northeast and sing in an accent too broad for anyone outside a 50 mile radius of Newcastle to fully comprehend more than little soundbites. To the … Continue reading

Foster The People – Helena Beat (Video)

Foster The People is arguably one of the fastest climbing bands of the past year. Granted, “Pumped Up Kicks” took more than a year to catch on like wildfire (that was posted 5.24.2010), but the band is riding the wave to superstardom. Check out the visuals for their next single, “Helena Beat”, which is described by the band as “a post-apocalyptic, ‘Lord of the Flies’ meets ‘Mad Max’ video.” If you’re somehow still in the dark on these guys, I highly recommend picking up their debut album Torches; one of the best compilations of the summer. Ambassadors – Unconsolable

Brooklyn’s own Ambassadors look poised to make a push on the rock circuit. I wouldn’t quite call these dudes “indie rock”, strictly because they have this stadium-anthem sound to the them that’s just bigger then the indie category. The chorus of “Unconsolable” is built to be belted at the top of your lungs, and with the right promotion, they could be well on their way to becoming the next big thing. Check it out for yourselves below. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Ambassadors – Unconsolable [via Neon Gold] Tweet

Black Box Revelation – Shiver Of Joy

Black Box Revelation is a Belgian rock band, and they have my attention with “Shiver Of Joy”. Something about this just exudes a cool factor that’s tough to find these days. Could be a new front-runner for the city-walking soundtrack. Keep an eye out come August for a new EP from the duo. Gotye (feat. Kimbra) – Somebody That I Used To Know

Gotye’s “Eyes Wide Open” fell in my lap last October, and I couldn’t get enough of the Australian’s sound. Everything about the easy-listening record struck me the right way; and since then, I haven’t been able to dig up much more on the guy. That is until today, when “Somebody I Used To Know” came my way. He keeps the soft, laid back style for a bit on this one, but then goes into straight heartbreak mode by the time the infectious chorus rolls around — and it cuts you to your core. Something about Gotye’s sound rubs me the … Continue reading
