Guilty pleasure city. Super Mash Bros. went quiet for a period of time after their meteoric rise in the collegiate music market. Upon first hearing Foxes’ “Youth”, I would’ve never seen it getting this much remix attention. Don’t get me wrong, the original is a great song — but it wasn’t screaming REMIX ME like some other songs do. Handfuls of producers out there beg to differ. Adventure Club is the latest to take it on — and this one might be a clear favorite for me. Crisp production, not too much over-the-top womp — a thing of beauty. Check it out below. I watched Drive for the second time last night, and there are a handful of things that I still can’t get over. The unbelievably graphic elevator scene, the sneaky-great soundtrack, and Ron Perlman’s UNCANNY RESEMBLANCE to a baboon. The shit is mindblowing. Anyways, The Hood Internet have decided to mash up one of the tracks from Drive, Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” with Wale’s “Chain Music”. The result is working for me at the moment. Lana Del Rey remixes are clearly overdone, that’s not a question. This isn’t a remix though, and as a cover, it deserves your attention. The Young Professionals take Lana’s dark, gloomy anthem and inject it with an upbeat pop sound that demands to be heard. Whoa — not quite sure how this one slipped under the radar. Emeli Sandé is this smooth Scottish R&B singer who’s just pulled the rug out from under me. As far as comparisons go, I’m coming up empty. She’s like this Janelle Monae/Beyoncé hybrid that’s heavily influenced by the jazz/breakbeat scene. Anyone? Maybe? I don’t care, this shit deserves to be recognized. Whenever a hip-hop artist attempts to make a “rock” album, the shit sucks. That’s a proven fact. We’re lucky then that I can’t really consider Kid Cudi to be a “rapper”. He’s always been too spacey and weird to be contained in a stereotypical genre like that. Cris Cab has put together his his most note-worthy collection of songs to date in the form of his latest mixtape, Echo Boom. The anticipated project is presented by Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club, and features production from the likes of Wyclef Jean, 88-Keys, and Pharrell himself. This is clearly the most “official” project we’ve seen from the 18 year-old Miami native, and it’s bound to serve as his stepping stone to mainstream success.
