Y LUV – Keep It Rollin

Earmilk just found me a potentially new favorite band. Granted we’re basing this off one song, but “Keep It Rollin” has everything I’m looking for right now. Y LUV consists of a handful of USC students that came together to establish their own musical style. “Keep It Rollin” nabs bits and pieces of a few popular bands at the moment (I’m getting a pretty heavy Phoenix vibe, Earmilk senses Foster The People), and mixes them together into one, concrete, infectious sound. Avicii – Levels (Official Video)

For whatever reason, the biggest electronic song of 2011 just managed to get an official video…and it’s atrocious. Where’s my production value Avicii??? You’re not even in the video bro. For a song as huge as “Levels”, I wanted some Michael Bay car chases, a couple helicopters blowing up, toss in a handful of models on $40 million yachts. Something other than this goober prancing around his shitty office. Fahk. Tweet

Childish Gambino – Hearbeat (No Pets Allowed Remix)

My favorite remix of the past 24 hours comes in the form of this No Pets Allowed re-work of “Heartbeat”. Jimbo discovered this last night, and I’m gonna go ahead and beat him to the punch with the post. The original has somewhat of a dubstep-influenced beat, so doing a remix like this doesn’t come off as drastic or unnecessary. Additionally, the womp womp womps aren’t overwhelming or out of control by any means — rather they’re melodic and play off of the original song perfectly. Check it out for yourselves below, and pick up Camp if you’re still missing … Continue reading

Rebecca & Fiona – Dance

Rebecca and Fiona, I like what you’re doing here. As usual, I’m into the whole “We’re Swedish and we make no-nonsense, captivating electro-pop jams” vibe that your country seems to live by. I’m a full supporter. After performing a little non-creepy Google image search on you two, and ripping through your latest album on Spotify, I think we have the potential to be best friends. Let me know if you feel the same. Love, Chuck [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Rebecca & Fiona – Dance Shout out to Hypem. Tweet

Hilltop Hoods (feat. Sia) – I Love It

Jimbo initially brought this to my attention the other day, and for good reason. Hilltop Hoods are an Australian hip-hop trio coming out of Adelaide, South Australia. For the first single off of their upcoming sixth studio album, they’ve recruited some help from fellow Aussie babe Sia. Her painfully catchy chorus, along with the top notch production, is what separates “I Love It” from the competition. I mean — I don’t think there’s that much competition in the Australian hip-hop market, but I could be wrong (if I am, hit me with another recommendation). Regardless, this is a jam and … Continue reading

The Roots – undun (Album Stream)

NPR gets everything! Growing up, I always thought that the station was meant strictly for senile, boring, cardboard-esque old men. Nowadays they’re premiering exclusive album streams of heavily hyped projects (a la Childish Gambino’s Camp). I dig the new branding effort. Anyways, hit The Roots’ new album undun in it’s entirety via this link, and let me know how it is. NPR for the win. Tweet

Nicky Blitz – Alive

A huge, huge congratulations to the crew over at All Things Go for the announcement of ATG Records today. They’ve been a primo place to go for music of all genres for a bit now, and it’s always refreshing to see fellow music bloggers expanding and moving on to bigger and better things. Their inaugural release comes in the form of Nicky Blitz’s “Alive”, and it’d be tough to pick a better track to open with. The production and vocals (all handled by Mr. Blitz) bring back childhood memories of Saturday soccer and dominating orange slices at halftime. I don’t … Continue reading

Watch All 10 Short Films From Bon Iver’s Deluxe LP

I gotta take a seat for this one. Bon Iver’s music itself sends you to another world, but the addition of trippy visuals makes this an out of body experience. It’s like a visualizer that’s perfectly crafted to fit his music. Just hit the “next track” icon in the menu bar of the YouTube video above to cycle through the songs/videos. Stoners everywhere rejoice. Tweet

B.o.B. – “EPIC: Every Play Is Crucial” (Mixtape)

I’m pretty over B.o.B. as a rapper. Not because he “sold out” — he deserves all of his success. I’m just a little sick of hearing his voice all over the place. He’s a ridiculously talented artist, that’s no question. Regardless of how I feel about him, I still think this project is worth checking out. The features are out of control with the likes of Eminem, Mos Def, T.I., Big K.R.I.T. and Bun B. I’m gonna give it a chance tonight, we’ll see what happens. Stream/download the mixtape below and let me know what you think. Am I being … Continue reading
