Skrillex (Feat. The Doors) – Breakin’ A Sweat

Chuck mentioned in his most recent post about the “RE:GENERATION” documentary that Skrillex would be a part of the project.  Here we have the song he put together while working with none other than the remaining members of The Doors.  This collaboration kind of set me back a bit when I first saw it.  It’s a bizarre concept, to say the least.  I’m not the biggest fan of the track — the vocals are a little off-putting…but the collaboration is so left field that I keep listening to it.  Definitely would have been even more interesting if the legendary Jim … Continue reading

Wale – Ambition (Feat. Meek Mill & Rick Ross)

With the marketing push for Ambition going full force right now, another cut from the album has been released to the masses.  This was one of the tracks I was really looking forward to hearing, and it definitely surpasses my expectations. The previews we got yesterday really don’t give us much to figure out which tracks will shine.  After listening to this song, featuring fellow MMG rappers Meek Mill and Rick Ross, it is clear that it will definitely be one of the stand outs. DJ Premier (feat. Nas & The Berklee Symphony Orchestra) – Regeneration

There’s this show called Crossroads that my pops is absolutely obsessed with. The concept is easy: they take two artists, generally of polar opposite genres, and put them together to come up with a song of their own. Pete straight loses his mind when there’s a new episode — but this is besides the point. There’s a documentary coming out called “RE:GENERATION”, where popular DJ’s/producers are mixed and matched with people of opposite genres. Pretty much the same thing as Crossroads. In the documentary, DJ Premier is matched up with orchestra conductor Stephen Webber. Pretty Lights, Skrillex, Mark Ronson and … Continue reading

Theophilus London Live @ Moulin Rouge, Paris

So all day yesterday I’m anticipating heading over to The Paradise in Boston to catch Theophilus London’s show with Friendly Fires. At about 3 PM, he lets the world know that he’s sick and isn’t making the show. Buzzkill of the week. Gonna have to let this footage hold me over until the next time he’s in town. Tweet

Foster The People – Life On The Nickel (Mansions On The Moon Remix)

Mansions On The Moon always seem to crop up out of the blue with a new, refreshing take on a well known track. That, and their original material has been making waves for months, which is why Pharrell has signed on to help produce their debut album next year. Here, the quartet takes on Foster The People’s “Life On The Nickel”, adds a collection of spacey synths and drums, and transforms the original to fit their style. In a similar vein to “Darkness” and “Glimpse of the Future” — if you’re not in the know, check those two out immediately. … Continue reading

Wale – Ambition (Album Preview)

Warner’s been all over the marketing push for Wale’s upcoming sophomore album Ambition. The world knows his album is dropping November 1st, and today they’ve hooked up a little interactive preview of the album featuring a few seconds of each track. I don’t know if I’m into the whole album preview thing; kind of a tease — but if you’re craving a general idea of what the album will sound like, it’s all here. Pre-order Ambition here. Tweet

M83/Lil Wayne – My Tears Are Becoming John

“Post more mash-ups!” “Don’t post any mash-ups!” “Post mash-ups, we love mash-ups!” “If you post another mash-up I’m driving to Boston and lighting you on fire while you sleep.” You guys are demanding as shit. I don’t post that many mash-ups, but when I do, I make sure they’re straight gold. And this, my friends, is primo gold. The producer behind it all, Emynd, takes M83′s  “My Tears are Becoming a Sea” and the Wayne/Rick Ross anthem “John”, and fuses them together into one fluid track. Applause. City Rain – Real Good (Remix)

Remember those dudes responsible for the undeniably addictive “I’m Gone” song/video in which they cruise around in the back of their truck with no shirts on in rural Pennsylvania? Yeah, they’re still making jams. Ben from City Rain sent this over my way about 10 minutes ago to get a simple opinion, and all it took was one listen for me to be strangely captivated. City Rain’s original version of “Real Good” is a peppy, new wave track that’s easy on the ears — an electronic remix doesn’t quite come to my mind as something that would work. Regardless, they transform … Continue reading

Coldplay – We Found Love (Rihanna Cover)

I might lose some fans for life by posting this one; apologies in advance to those who will be offended. Coldplay swung by BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge the other day, and they pulled out a cover of Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ smash “We Found Love”. Get rid of the Calvin Harris electronic beat, and add in Chris Martin’s instantly recognizable vocals, and you have your result. Ghost Beach – Empty Streets

Neon Gold coming out of left field with another catchy, glistening alternative track from someone we’ve never heard of. Straight out of the heart of  NYC, Ghost Beach has my attention with “Empty Streets”. Their sound is eerily reminiscent of a band I listened to a couple of years ago, and I can’t put my finger on who the hell I’m thinking of. Literally have been trying to dig it up for the past hour — it’s deep in the archives somewhere. Anyways, give this a listen — looking forward to more material from these guys.
