Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Ray Dalton) – Can’t Hold Us

While Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have a significant cult following, they should be infinitely more popular than they actually are, all things considered. Every track I’ve heard from them is filled with a passion that’s hard to find in music these days. Macklemore raps with meaning and authority, to the point where you buy into everything he says. Ryan Lewis has proven himself to be an exceptional producer behind the scenes. The combination and talent of these two guys is tough to come across in today’s world, and I feel like more recognition should come — especially after tracks like … Continue reading

Portugal. The Man – So American

A buddy of mine told me to check out Portugal. The Man, not so much for their original material, but for some remixes of their work that other bands have put together. Well I got caught up in their original projects, and was immediately hooked when I got a hold of “So American”. A perfect song for a rainy Tuesday, there’s no question. The group comes out of Portland, but they’re originally from Wasilla, Alaska, which is reason enough to give this a listen. Just signed to Atlantic Records, this is off their recent studio release In The Mountain In … Continue reading

David Guetta & Afrojack – Lunar

David Guetta and Afrojack just released this second single off of Guetta’s upcoming album Nothing But The Beat. This shit just sounds like I’m walking on the moon, legitimately. If I suddenly decide to change career paths and become an astronaut, I will listen to this song and this song only when I first step foot on our glorious moon. Makes me want to go to outer space immediately. Look for Nothing But The Beat to drop on August 30th. It’s a 2-disc set, one being electronic and one being vocal. Sounds like it’s built to appeal to both the European … Continue reading

Chromeo (feat. Solange Knowles) – When The Night Falls (Video)

Here’s the visual for Chromeo’s infectious, 80′s themed “When The Night Falls”. The more I look at him, the more I’m upset at myself that I didn’t piece together the relation between the lead singer and A-Trak. They’re brothers, and they look identical. Shout out to Beyonce’s sister, who is conveniently impregnated by Chromeo’s music. Tweet

Wale – Chain Music (Radio Rip)

Wale has been releasing some pretty quality tracks lately and according to his Twitter feed we will receive 11 more sometime this week.  This track premiered on DJ Infamous’ radio show the other day and it features Wale over a beat from his go-to producer from DC, Tone P. I’m into Wale’s flow on the track, and I look forward to hearing his new material later this week. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Wale- Chain Music Tweet

DWNTWN – Transition

Neon Gold is at it again. First off, it’s beyond cool that those two started Neon Gold, turned it into a mini record label sponsoring up and coming artists, and are now a small division of Columbia Records. I mean, that’s the dream right there. And they’re living it. Secondly, this boppy electronic jam from DWNTWN has taken over mis orejas. It’s got a little spacey vibe to it, and it balances that perfectly with a poppy chorus that is bound to get stuck in your head. Finally, our file host, Soundowl, is having a few technical difficulties so I’m unable … Continue reading

Alex Winston – Velvet Elvis (RAC Remix)

Alex Winston. RAC Remix. That’s all I need to convince me to press play. I meant to throw this in my “Back” post that I wrote up last night, but better late than never. An up-and-coming Boston DJ classifies Alex as “sneaky hot”, and I’d have to concur entirely. On top of that, she’s got the voice of an angel; which makes for a hell of a combination. Add in Andre Anjos’ absurdly talented remix ability, and we have a winner on our hands. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Alex Winston – Velvet Elvis (RAC Remix) Tweet

SBTRKT (feat. Shabazz Palaces & Little Dragon) – Wildfire (Drumma Boy Remix)

The dude in the creepy, tribal mask shown above is responsible for one of the more addictive albums of the summer. SBTRKT’s self-titled, debut album is filled with quirky, unique beats that cram themselves in my head on a daily basis. “Never, Never” has been a particular driving anthem of mine for the past several weeks, and it’s yet to get old. Shabazz Palaces is a producer responsible for a similar sound, and this little remix is enough for me to proactively seek out his album. Just an undeniable blend of two styles that will fit perfectly into your daily … Continue reading

STS9 – Beyond Right Now (Glitch Mob Remix)

Just came across this awesome remix, that mashes together a couple cool songs. This is my first exposure to STS9 (short for Sound Tribe Sector 9) but I’m definitely going to be checking out their other tracks. I’m not usually a fan of mash-ups in the traditional sense, where the lyrics of one song are played over another beat – I find it boring. I do appreciate it when artists like Girl Talk take elements of many different songs and fuse them to create a unique new product. That’s what the Glitch Mob has done here. I’ve included the two … Continue reading

J. Cole – Work Out (Video)

Here are the visuals for J. Cole’s first single off of his debut album Cole World. When “Work Out” dropped a couple of months ago, I don’t think anyone was expecting a Paula Abdul sample — nor a Kanye sample. Didn’t think it was allowed to sample the sample-master himself. At least he pulled it off. Tweet
