The Fortnight @ 5:00 (Vol. 2)

Here we are two weeks from the last Fortnight installment, and as is the new tradition, DJ B-Rob has graced us with a new mix comprised of some of our favorite tracks from the past 14 days. A simple, smooth, 22-minute version of the best of the past two weeks on the site. Toss in some creative, relevant Photoshop work — and we have ourselves sitting on a goldmine. Gotta love the fistpump from the Captain. Not gonna see any of those from him anytime soon. Per usual, tracklist after the jump. The Fortnight @ 5:00 (Vol. 2) Tracklist 1. … Continue reading →

Miike Snow – Paddling Out (Official Video)

Here we have the official video for Miike Snow’s infectious “Paddling Out”, off their upcoming album — and it’s weird as HELL. It begins with an empty whiskey bottle on the ground, labeled “Banana Juice” — and continues to follow some overweight version of William H. Macy in Shameless as he gets grotesquely operated on by a crew of horrifying Quaker-like young girls. Dancing is involved. So yeah, that is all. Check it out. Tweet

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (4FRNT Remix)

Last night I had a little conversation about Gotye and his awesome debut album with a buddy of mine — and he casually sent over this white flame via GChat. No warning, no heads up — just dropped this bomb directly in my lap. It must be shared with the people. As I said yesterday, pick up his album Making Mirrors — probably my favorite record of the moment. Tweet

Lana Del Rey – Video Games (Live on Letterman)

Everyone knows the “cool” thing to do these days is to bash this girl like it’s nobody’s business. Her debut album Born To Die has been panned by critics near and far (unjustly, in my mind), and she didn’t exactly set the right precedent with her sub-par SNL performance. The thing is, she has a ton of talent — and people refuse to accept it. You don’t necessarily have to like her music, but I think it’s fair to say that you have to accept that she’s talented. Confusion over at Pigeons & Planes already said everything that I wanted to say … Continue reading →

Skrillex – The Unlikely Face Of The Grammy’s

Everybody knows the Grammy’s are a miserable representation of music, but this commercial right here is a 30 second definition of how huge 2011 was for Skrillex, and all of electronic music in general. I used to bump “With You, Friends” randomly before work last winter (remember this story??) — but I really couldn’t handle anything else on Skrillex’s EP, it was too aggressive and bizarre for me. Fast-forward 12 months, he’s the face of the Grammy’s in a 30-second ad spot, and I’ve been turned into a certified fan. There is no one in the music world that had … Continue reading →

The Airplane Boys – Dictate

The Airplane Boys are a hip-hop duo coming out of Toronto, and they’re brand new on my radar. They’re slated to do a set at Coachella and SXSW, and seem to be known for their dark, ominous, electronic-infused production. “Dictate” is coming off their upcoming project Alignment, and it comes off somewhere in between dark as hell yet catchy. We into this? [via Hypetrak] Tweet

Super Mash Bros. – ¡Holy Guacamole!

Guilty pleasure city. Super Mash Bros. went quiet for a period of time after their meteoric rise in the collegiate music market. They struck gold right at the time when college kids fucking loved mash-ups, and rode the wave. “¡Holy Guacamole!” is the first release from them in a while, and it’s still obvious that they’re in the elite of the “genre”. The mash-up hysteria has died down since, but I still respect the hell out of the ability to fuse together so many songs into one fluid track. Like them on Facebook to download their most recent project, Miley High … Continue reading →

Foxes – Youth (Adventure Club Remix)

Upon first hearing Foxes’ “Youth”, I would’ve never seen it getting this much remix attention. Don’t get me wrong, the original is a great song — but it wasn’t screaming REMIX ME like some other songs do. Handfuls of producers out there beg to differ. Adventure Club is the latest to take it on — and this one might be a clear favorite for me. Crisp production, not too much over-the-top womp — a thing of beauty. Check it out below.
Big K.R.I.T. – Boobie Miles

Big K.R.I.T. is one of the more talked about up-and-comers on the hip-hop scene, and the Mississippi native just released “Boobie Miles” to gear up his fans for his upcoming project, 4evaNaDay. Gotta love the Friday Night Lights reference here — and the smooth, soulful production fits his Southern style to a T. Stream and download below. Tweet

Gotye – Eyes Wide Open (Live on Jimmy Kimmel)

Back in October of 2010, I came across a captivating track in the blogosphere by a then relatively unknown Australian singer. “Eyes Wide Open” was one of those songs that stuck with me from the very first play, and over a year later it still has the same effect. Now, in 2012, he’s performing “Eyes Wide Open” for the masses on Jimmy Kimmel, and it sounds better then ever. Do yourselves a favor and pick up his debut album Making Mirrors, one of the better debuts I’ve heard in a while. It’s such a great feeling to see an artist … Continue reading →
