Laza Morgan (feat. Mavado) – One By One

I didn’t see this coming. A little reggaeton/pop jam to jumpstart your Thursday?? Shit’s getting wild around here.

My buddy Ben send this over to me today — and he’s got a pretty good track record for dishing me something totally different from what I’m listening to at the moment. There are a handful of reggaeton jams that have completely captured my soul; the most recent being Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh”. Put that shit on late-night wherever you are and things are bound to get weird.

Anyways, this dude Laza Morgan (hailing from Springfield, MA….seriously???) might have the next catchy Jamaican track on his hands. It was released back in March, but that doesn’t change the fact that “One By One” is undeniable reggaeton/pop greatness — spice your routine up and hit it below.

Deadmau5 Live At House Of Blues – Boston

You can’t really just casually go to a Deadmau5 concert on a Wednesday. Wake up, go to work, get out of work, and go to a Deadmau5 show…just doesn’t work like that. But that’s what happened last night. This was my third time seeing the Mau5 — the first being about a year ago in NYC, and then over the summer at Lollapalooza in a downpour in Chicago’s Grant Park. Everytime it’s an event. Last night was no different.

Unlike Jimbo, I wasn’t really craving to see the opening acts, as the majority of them seemed to be hard dubstep producers — and considering doors opened at 6 p.m., I wanted to make sure my ears weren’t bleeding by the time Deadmau5 came on stage. Apparently that was a mistake, as Feed Me and the other openers put on a hell of a show, but I stand by my reasoning. The Mau5man came on around 10 p.m., and played a lengthy two-hour set for the sold-out Boston crowd. Which, being 16+, was an interesting scene.

At one point during his set, B-Rob (DJ who opened for The Knocks & Capital Cities) tapped me on the shoulder and brought to my attention that there was a legitimate CLONE of Ronnie from Jersey Shore going HAMMERTIME in a guido dance-off of sorts. You had about 10 spray-tan orange girls who looked like they came straight out of Karma just eating it up. Perfect. Then you had your obnoxious hipsters with their crotch-grabbing jeans and double-deep V-necks getting weird with their other hipster friends. Add in your true, die-hard electronic music fans tripping balls with their LED fingertip gloves, your Polo and critter short-wearing fratty bros, and your techno female crews dressed in panties, tie-dye tank tops and buckets of glitter on their faces, and you have a decent idea of what we were working with. Then you had your 16-year old juniors in high school going to their first concert. All of these people generally despise each other, but they all bow down to Deadmau5 together. It’s bizarro-world.

The dude covered all the hits, as he should have in a 2 hour set. “Ghosts N Stuff”, “Some Chords”, “Raise Your Weapon”…he even brought out Sofi for the “Sofi Needs A Ladder” vocals. All were pretty awesome, but my highlight was far and above him closing out the set with “Strobe”. As you can see in the video above, he has about a 5-minute, epic buildup which had the place flipping out. Apologies in advance for me screaming “STROBE! STROBE! STROBE CITY!” to which Jimbo responded “WOW WOW WOW”… sort of put a damper on the footage.

All in all, a nice casual Wednesday evening. He’s got two more shows left in Boston, and if you don’t have tickets now, enjoy paying $150 to get in the building.

Frank Ocean – Thinking About You (Sound Remedy Remix)

The art of the remix is a tough one to pin down. I’m trying to think back to when they really exploded onto the scene, and it’s borderline absurd how in today’s day and age, a song may have thousands and thousands of home-made remixes. A vast percentage of them are audible shit, but when done right, they can transform a song entirely and give it even more lasting power. From what I’ve heard, Sound Remedy finds himself in that small percentage of successful remix artists, and his take on Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You” keeps him in this category. He perks up the original just enough without being overwhelming — making this undoubtedly worth your time.

James Vincent McMorrow – We Don’t Eat (Official Video)

Here are the official visuals for James Vincent McMorrow’s sleep-inducing “We Don’t Eat”. His debut album Early In The Morning was a dark horse for me this year, as it’s turned out to be one of my favorite releases of 2011…even though it came out in early 2010.

If you’re not in the know, hit “If I Had A Boat” and the captivating Adventure Club remix to “We Don’t Eat”, and you’ll start to understand what this dude brings to the table.

Eagle Eye Cherry – Save Tonight (Simon Sh:Out Remix)

Everybody love Eagle Eye Cherry’s timeless smash “Save Tonight”. If you don’t, then we have problems. A dude by the name of Simon Sh:Out went out of his way to make it a modern, electro banger — and he succeeded without going too over the top. This isn’t just some college kid turning an early 90′s hit into a shitty techno remix from his Macbook. This one’s got lasting power, and should be listened to and downloaded right meow.

Shoutout to @brentonrules for the tip.

Pac Div – The Greatness

Here we have Pac Div’s latest offering, produced by No I.D., the Chicago native behind endless hip-hop hits. I’ve been hearing material from this trio for a couple of years now, and this is definitely the best track I’ve come across.  It’s tough to not dig the positive message and soothing piano that the song drops on you.  Be on the look out for Pac Div’s album, The Div, which hits iTunes November 8th.

Motopony – King of Diamonds

Motopony is a four-piece band coming out of Seattle, and I got my hands on this track a few months ago when I saw that the band had an upcoming show at The Middle East (on 10/17) in Boston. Somehow, the song was lost and never made it into my rotation again until now — and it’s dominating my Tuesday. The relaxation factor in this one is undeniable.

Pick it up below, and if you’re in Boston, check out their live show with Viva Brother next Monday at The Middle East downstairs.

Icona Pop – Nights Like This

The Swedish duo Icona Pop have just released their debut EP Nights Like This, and they’ve tossed in the official video for the title track as well. The visuals get a little bizarre, but that doesn’t affect the uncanny, addictive hook. With “Manners”, production from The Knocks on “Sun Goes Down”, and choruses like these, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if Nights Like This serves as their stepping stone into superstardom.

If you have any doubts, hit the stream of “Lovers To Friends” below and your mind will be changed.

Justice – “Newlands” and “Canon”

Two new tracks from Justice’s highly anticipated album Audio, Video, Disco were released over the weekend, and if anything, they’ve only increased the hype. “Newlands” feeds off of this 70′s/80′s rock feel a la The Who, and it’s addictive as hell. If you weren’t convinced that this duo is one of the more talented producer combos out there — their new album is going to change all of that. Their ability to intertwine different styles and genres throughout their songs is what separates them from everyone else out there. On some tracks you might have a straight electronic/techno-infused feel, others could be 100% new-age rock, while some could be a mix of anything.

Hit “Newlands” and “Canon” below, and keep an eye out for their new album, due out on October 25th.
