B.o.B. – “EPIC: Every Play Is Crucial” (Mixtape)

I’m pretty over B.o.B. as a rapper. Not because he “sold out” — he deserves all of his success. I’m just a little sick of hearing his voice all over the place. He’s a ridiculously talented artist, that’s no question. Regardless of how I feel about him, I still think this project is worth checking out. The features are out of control with the likes of Eminem, Mos Def, T.I., Big K.R.I.T. and Bun B. I’m gonna give it a chance tonight, we’ll see what happens. Stream/download the mixtape below and let me know what you think. Am I being … Continue reading

B.o.B. (feat. Lil Wayne) – Strange Clouds

A nice little Google Image search of “Strange Clouds” return this doozie of a photo, claiming to be “the hands of God”. If this shit isn’t Photoshopped then I don’t know what is. Arguably the most blatant use of a photo editing program I’ve ever seen in my life; but that’s neither here nor there. This is B.o.B.’s first single off his sophomore, yet untitled album — which is due out before the end of 2011. Unfortunately, I can’t look at the man the same after reading this article on how he absolutely hosed a small local bar in Cornell … Continue reading

B.o.B. (feat. Amy Winehouse) – Grip Your Body

This right here is an old B.o.B. track, taken from his mixtape Hello My Name Is B.o.B. — this time around it’s been updated with new lyrics and an Amy Winehouse sample. Now that I think about it,  I’m not sure why more rappers didn’t recruit Amy to lay down choruses for their songs; she’s a rapper’s perfect complement. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed, as Ms. Winehouse is no longer with us. Anyways, hit “Grip Your Body” below and let me know what you think. Tweet

Wale (feat. Big Sean & B.o.B.) – First Class

This one came out of nowhere this afternoon, and looks to be a track that was sitting around for a while before it was released. Doesn’t appear to be on any upcoming albums, doesn’t appear to contain all new verses, but none of that really matters. I’m interested to see if Wale can fully break through with his next album — B.o.B. is a legitimate star now, and Big Sean is well on his way after selling a shitload of copies of Finally Famous. Wale’s debut album was definitely good, but didn’t really catch on like I imagined it to. … Continue reading

OneRepublic (feat. B.o.B.) – Good Life (Remix)

Months ago my buddy JD told me in the most heterosexual way possible to check out OneRepublic’s “Good Life”. I did, and I was instantly hooked — it’s got this ultimate soundtrack appeal. Now that I think about it, I’m sure it’s been all over Gray’s Anatomy and Gossip Girl and shit, so I’m losing all credibility with this, but that’s neither here nor there. I then saw B.o.B. jumped on the official remix, and I couldn’t resist the urge to post it. Give it a listen below, and try to tell me it’s not semi-catchy. [Audio clip: view full … Continue reading

B.o.B. – NY, NY

Apologies for the hiatus my friends, EB and I have returned from Vegas and are back to our respective normalities. Which means we have music. B.o.B just released this new track of his, sampling some classic Frank Sinatra. It’s amazing to think how high this guy has climbed the ranks; these days everything he puts out has the potential to be a smash hit. Hit the stream and download below. Shout out to the guest in the Shoutbox. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: B.o.B. – NY, NY Tweet

J. Cole (feat. B.o.B.) – Pass Me By

I think this is the third time I’ve posted this song, no lie. Each time, the version is entirely different…it started out without a chorus, then they added a chorus featuring Kevin Cossom, and now they’ve replaced Cossom with B.o.B. I’m gonna go ahead and say that this is the final album version, but who knows. They could come back at us wit 5 more versions before it’s all said and done. This is, naturally, the best one to date. B.o.B. – No Genre (Mixtape)

I got my hands on B.o.B.’s most recent mixtape No Genre when it dropped last week, but until now my ears had yet to sit down with it and give it a legitimate analysis. No Genre represents B.o.B.’s first collection of work since his absurdly successful debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray. With that in mind, a lot of the mixtape represents his current mindset, and what it’s been like to explode onto the mainstream airwaves as fast as he did. He’s been making music for years, and for people just to start appreciating and recognizing him seems to … Continue reading

B.o.B. – Beast Mode

2010 was the year that B.o.B. exploded onto the global music scene. Teenage girls everywhere belted “Nothin’ On You”, “Airplanes”, and “Magic” for months on end…to the point that we all vomit as a natural reaction when any of those songs come on the radio. While 2010 was his introduction to Top 40 radio, the dude’s been making music for years. Recently, he released this track which is off of his upcoming mixtape titled No Genre, and it’s got that raw, mixtape feel…as opposed to the mainstream album feel. Not that there’s anything wrong with either styles…it’s hard to be … Continue reading

Remembering Where The Hype Began

Remembering where the hype began is one of my all time favorite games to play. Looking back at a particular artist’s musical career, and remembering what their music was like in the pre-superstar era is semi-refreshing.  For example, I toss on Kanye’s “We Don’t Care” or “Family Business” from The College Dropout, and I remember being in my ’95 green Ford Explorer after first popping in his CD.  It’s just cool to bring back that “Ohhh shiiiiiiit” moment I had when my ears were first exposed to his new style.  Now everybody in the world is sick of his antics … Continue reading
