Childish Gambino – We Ain’t Them

Gambino got ALL SORTS of personal on his Twitter feed this afternoon/evening. Generally I ignore full-on Twitter rants unless they’re at 3 a.m. from Kanye West about how Skrillex’s version of “Cinema” is the greatest song of all time. Gambino rarely hits Twitter like this though, so I was intrigued. Check it out for yourself — but he clears up and responds to the majority of the criticism that he’s been facing. At the end of the rant, he drops his new website on our domes, with a link to his new track. He’s got my attention. [Audio clip: view … Continue reading

Ludovin (feat. Childish Gambino) – Tricks

Meet Ludovin, aka Ludwig Göransson. You don’t know him now– but you might recognize him as the co-writer and co-producer of Childish Gambino’s debut album, Camp. He just recently released a quick, six-track EP, in which “Tricks” is the closer. Quality production, a new verse from Gambino — that should be about all you need to convince yourself to press play below. Pick up Ludovin’s free project here. Childish Gambino – Heartbeat (Official Video)

Here are the official visuals for Gambino’s fan-favorite “Heartbeat”. Anyone want to explain the sequence of events in this one to me? Girl gets in the back of his Benz, CG makes a pitstop to pick up some Cheetos, stops the car to make out with the babe in the back, then drops her off. Am I missing anything here? The Best Albums Of 2011

People love lists. Particularly “best of the year” lists. There’s something about putting a quantitative ranking next to a collection of the year’s entertainment — the people need to know how things match up against each other. To be honest, I was dreading the creation of these rankings. It’s borderline impossible for me to take two albums of completely different genres and try to justify how one is better than the other. In the process though, you re-discover albums from earlier in the year that you loved, but didn’t quite give enough time to. This is the summation of that … Continue reading

Childish Gambino – Hearbeat (No Pets Allowed Remix)

My favorite remix of the past 24 hours comes in the form of this No Pets Allowed re-work of “Heartbeat”. Jimbo discovered this last night, and I’m gonna go ahead and beat him to the punch with the post. The original has somewhat of a dubstep-influenced beat, so doing a remix like this doesn’t come off as drastic or unnecessary. Additionally, the womp womp womps aren’t overwhelming or out of control by any means — rather they’re melodic and play off of the original song perfectly. Check it out for yourselves below, and pick up Camp if you’re still missing … Continue reading

Donald Glover – Weirdo (Comedy Central Special)

These days, it’s Donald Glover’s world and we’re just living in it. This past Tuesday he released Camp, his first commercial album — expected to sell an impressive 50k copies. On top of that, he’s got an hour long Comedy Central stand-up special set to air Saturday at 11:00 PM. A debut album, an hour long comedy special…not sure what else he can do here in one week. Head over to Comedy Central to watch the rough cut, and be sure to tune in Saturday at 11 PM for the real deal. Shoutout to itstheBino. Tweet

Childish Gambino Performs “Heartbeat” Live on Conan

Gambino made his way over to Conan’s studio last night to do a live rendition of “Heartbeat”, and celebrate the release of his first commercial album. Camp is in stores everywhere. Tweet

Childish Gambino – Camp (Album Review)

Donald Glover might be the most unlikely rap personality to be making waves in the 2011 hip-hop game. Initially, he was a comedian who also rapped. After he went to NYU, he wrote and appeared in several sketch comedy skits for a crew called Derrick Comedy (note this instant classic of theirs). Afterwards, he became a writer for The Daily Show, then 30 Rock, and then landed a full-time gig as Troy Barnes on the NBC show Community – solidifying his path as Donald Glover the actor. The problem is, the dude is so obscenely talented that he can’t stick to … Continue reading

Childish Gambino – “Heartbeat”, Interview, Live Performance on Jimmy Fallon, and Full Album Stream on NPR

Alright — this is too much Childish Gambino for one post, but I don’t know how else to handle this. Camp drops November 15th, and being only a week away, the man’s in the midst of an intense PR push. In the past couple of days, Donald Glover’s been on Jimmy Fallon performing “Bonfire”, he’s interviewed…himself (above for Rolling Stone), and he’s premiered a new track off the album titled “Heartbeat”. Last week we heard “Heartbeat” first hand live at The House Of Blues, and everybody got the vibe that it was something special. This recording seems to confirm those beliefs, … Continue reading

Childish Gambino Live @ The House Of Blues – Boston

“Alright, Gambino is a mastermind.” After tonight, I can’t really come up with a more accurate statement. Without sounding too over the top, Donald Glover has to be one of the more talented personalities in the entertainment industry. He’s a comedic superstar with a starring role on NBC’s Community, he’s a hysterical, Emmy-award winning writer, with a former gig as a writer for 30 Rock, he has witticisms for days as a rapper, and he’s an unbelievable live performer. I don’t know what else I can say. Tonight in Boston, Childish Gambino headlined a sold-out show at The House Of Blues … Continue reading
