Interesting little experiment by the remix bretheren wait what — as we know, “Take Care” was an original track by Gil Scott-Heron, then Jamie xx did a remix, and that’s the beat that Drake used for his version with Rihanna. In this run through, wait what nixes Rihanna, replaces her with the original Gil Scott-Heron, but keeps the Jamie xx production. Lost yet? Just hit play. [via Mostly Junkfood] Tweet

People love lists. Particularly “best of the year” lists. There’s something about putting a quantitative ranking next to a collection of the year’s entertainment — the people need to know how things match up against each other. To be honest, I was dreading the creation of these rankings. It’s borderline impossible for me to take two albums of completely different genres and try to justify how one is better than the other. In the process though, you re-discover albums from earlier in the year that you loved, but didn’t quite give enough time to. This is the summation of that … Continue reading →

This is too easy. Drake obviously doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks about him — but what the FUCK is with the Nike athletic gloves everywhere he goes? Literally everywhere he goes, he’s wearing these things. No but seriously, everywhere he goes. Just ready to catch a football at all times of the day. And the leopard-print North Face jacket??? Are you shitting me??? To make matters worse, his boy Wayne isn’t helping him out much by casually sporting NEON GREEN UGGS. This place is fucking bizarroworld.
Whoa. For the first 20 seconds or so, this sounds just like “Crew Love” that we’re all used to. Then out of NOWHERE this turns into an 80′s dance party, with barely any recognition of the original track found anywhere outside of the “We’re lovin the crew” background vocals. Around the 2:00 mark this shit really breaks down. In their own words… For some reason the track reminded us of the soundtrack to a couple 80s movies we know. So we went with that inspiration, adding some classic Hughes worthy elements, big electric guitars, walking drive bassline, and even a few subtle samples … Continue reading →

Annnnnd the remixes have begun. Take Care is the talk of the town, and it was only so long before people started tweaking and re-working every song on the album. For the most part I won’t give these the time of day, but I’ll give anything Star Slinger touches a listen. Here he adds more drums to Drake’s opener off the album, amongst other things, and the result is one of my favorite Star Slinger tracks to date.
Aubrey Graham’s sophomore album Take Care is arguably the biggest record release of the year. The Toronto native is coming off one of the more impressive stints in recent memory — seemingly having a feature on any and every Billboard smash you can think of. On the hype scale for 2011 hip-hop albums, I think it’s only fair to say that this is right up there with Watch The Throne and the highly underwhelming Tha Carter IV. Sure, people love to rip on Drake for being from Canada, being too emotional, starring on Degrassi, and wearing unbelievably obnoxious sweaters. That’s all fair game. … Continue reading →

The internet almost exploded last night with certain news about the newfound availability of Drake’s sophomore album Take Care. It started when Canadian radio played two highly anticipated cuts off the project. Ears were given a first listen to the Jamie xx-produced track “Take Care”, which features help from Rihanna, as well as The Weeknd-assisted “Crew Love”. Both are enormous tracks, that lead me to believe the first week numbers for Take Care might be bigger than we all think. In fact, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Drake will sell more copies of this album … Continue reading →

Drake just let go of this mastered version of “The Motto”, one of the bonus tracks off of Take Care. According to the Toronto native, the tracklist that was released yesterday is not entirely accurate — as a couple of features weren’t listed (including this one). So far, it sounds like he’s covering all the bases on his sophomore album. He’s got the R&B Drake fans covered. He’s got the rap Drake fans covered. He’s got the features he needs. Even the Wheelchair Jimmy fans are amped. Take Care on 11/15. Drake – The Motto Lyrics [via October's Very Own] Tweet
