Foster The People – Don’t Stop (Oliver Remix)

Got a nifty little remix here courtesy of Oliver. I don’t have much info on Oliver. I know they’re a duo out of LA. I know their names are Vaughn Oliver and Oliver Goldstein. I know I want to party with them. That’s about it. So enjoy their remix of “Don’t Stop” and definitely keep your eyes out for more. Tweet

Foster The People – Don’t Stop (St. Lucia Remix)

St. Lucia, thank you. For whatever reason this week has been beyond slow in terms of new music releases — and they’ve come out of left field with a new remix to hold me over. The band’s currently in the midst of a month long NYC residency, complete with free, weekly shows at Pianos. If you can’t get involved in that, then you’re going to want to trek up to Boston for our co-sponsored show featuring them, The Knocks, and Savoir Adore. That’s today’s news, thanks for listening. Shout out to Rolling Stone for the premiere. [Audio clip: view full … Continue reading

The Best Albums Of 2011

People love lists. Particularly “best of the year” lists. There’s something about putting a quantitative ranking next to a collection of the year’s entertainment — the people need to know how things match up against each other. To be honest, I was dreading the creation of these rankings. It’s borderline impossible for me to take two albums of completely different genres and try to justify how one is better than the other. In the process though, you re-discover albums from earlier in the year that you loved, but didn’t quite give enough time to. This is the summation of that … Continue reading

Foster The People – Life On The Nickel (Mansions On The Moon Remix)

Mansions On The Moon always seem to crop up out of the blue with a new, refreshing take on a well known track. That, and their original material has been making waves for months, which is why Pharrell has signed on to help produce their debut album next year. Here, the quartet takes on Foster The People’s “Life On The Nickel”, adds a collection of spacey synths and drums, and transforms the original to fit their style. In a similar vein to “Darkness” and “Glimpse of the Future” — if you’re not in the know, check those two out immediately. … Continue reading

RefinedHype Presents: Overlooked

Kendrick Lamar may be the best thing to come out of L.A.’s rap scene since Raiders caps, but the “#Section80″ creator isn’t afraid to grow an ironic mustache, get a sparrow tattoo, crack open a PBR and hang out with the hipsters. Ok, that’s an exaggeration, but he did jump on the remix to Foster the People’s mega hipster hit ”Pumped Up Kicks”. I actually don’t mind Kendrick at all here. It’s good to hear him switch up his lyrics from his normally dark and dangerous territory and now I can nod my head to this cut while still maintaining a shred of non-hipster … Continue reading

Cris Cab – Pumped Up Kicks (Cover)

Good to hear from Cris Cab again; it’s been a bit since we’ve had some new material from the young Miami native. This time around he infuses Foster The People’s summer smash “Pumped Up Kicks” with his reggae flair, and the results are a perfect change of pace. Watch the video, and add it to your libraries via the download below. Download: Cris Cab – Pumped Up Kicks (Cover) Tweet

Foster The People – Helena Beat (Lenno Remix)

Whoa. Lenno, the 16 year-old up-and-coming producer out of Finland was called to remix Foster The People’s “Helena Beat” for their official Remix EP, and he turns it into a new-age, disco acid trip. When the chorus drops in around the 0:32 second mark it’s borderline unstoppable. To say this high school kid has a huge future as a producer is the understatement of the year. In other unrelated news, Dolphin Tale cannot, I repeat, CANNOT be a real feature film. I refuse to believe that it is. Tweet

The Hood Internet – Pumped Up Kicks (feat. Hollywood Holt)

The Hood Internet continues their mastery of the remix as they take on this summer’s radio anthem “Pumped Up Kicks”. They recruit the help of rapper Hollywood Holt, add a few more boom-baps to the instrumental, and call it a day. Shout out to Foster the People, who were nominated for Best New Artist last night at the VMA’s — but fell to Tyler The Creator. Skizzy Mars – Houdini

Forgot to share this one with you last night. Skizzy Mars takes Foster The People’s engaging “Houdini”, and adds in a couple fireflame verses on top. Not really sure why this one works out so well; because by all logic it shouldn’t; but I’m really into this. Apparently the kid is only 17 too. I posted Skizzy Mars’ “Profound” a few weeks back; which completely took over my iTunes at the time. If you’re not up on Skizzy Mars, get involved. Foster The People – Helena Beat (Video)

Foster The People is arguably one of the fastest climbing bands of the past year. Granted, “Pumped Up Kicks” took more than a year to catch on like wildfire (that was posted 5.24.2010), but the band is riding the wave to superstardom. Check out the visuals for their next single, “Helena Beat”, which is described by the band as “a post-apocalyptic, ‘Lord of the Flies’ meets ‘Mad Max’ video.” If you’re somehow still in the dark on these guys, I highly recommend picking up their debut album Torches; one of the best compilations of the summer.
