Lupe Fiasco – Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)

Here’s a first look at the debut single off Lupe’s upcoming album Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album. A lot of controversy surrounding this one on the blogosphere tonight. First off, he straight up jacked Pete Rock’s beat from “T.R.O.Y.”, and I understand that it’s a sample — but there are just some tracks that shouldn’t be altered, and this is one of them. At the very least, I just feel like you should approach the dude who made the original if you’re gonna go ahead and attempt to sample it like that — and maybe he did. With … Continue reading

Lupe Fiasco – American Terrorist III

After his random mixtape drop the other week, here’s a new cut from Lupe, as he goes in over a track from the Drive soundtrack. Not only is that movie unbelievably well-done, but the soundtrack is arguably the best of the year. Just wild 80′s inspired jams like Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” that I’ve never come across before. Lupe’s remix is below. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Lupe Fiasco – American Terrorist III Tweet

Lupe Fiasco (feat. MDMA) – I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now (Official Video)

Lupe just let go of the official video for “I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now”, after receiving a Grammy nod for “Best Rap Album”. A pretty basic tour-life video, and Lasers remains mediocre. Tweet

Lupe Fiasco – Friend Of The People (Mixtape)

While you’re all recovering from blissful food comas today, you might want to download this new, impromptu mixtape from Lupe. He dropped this via Twitter yesterday to give thanks to his fans, and it didn’t take long before it started trending.  It was a little curveball here to see him going in on all of these popular electronic jams, but I guess that’s the cool thing to do these days. Hit his rendition of M83′s “Midnight City” below, and if it’s something you’re into — grab the mixtape in it’s entirety. RefinedHype Presents: Overlooked

It happens every year. A rapper sits down and thinks, “Yo, I should drop a Halloween-related track on Halloween!” (See also: Christmas, New Years Eve, etc.) It’s a fine idea, except approximately 40,000 other rappers have the exact same idea, which means a ton of shit drops the same day, which means some pretty notable tracks inevitably get overlooked. Like, for example, the fact that Lupe Fiasco did a track with the L.E.P. Bogus Boys about zombies. Yeah, “Zombieland” really happened, and like most collaborations this unexpected, it came together very randomly. The good people over at FakeShoreDrive got the backstory from the Bogus Boys’ A&R … Continue reading

Lupe Fiasco – Lightwork (feat. Ellie Goulding & Bassnectar)

Gonna be honest, Lupe’s one of the more annoying dudes to follow on Twitter. The other day though, he was saying how the pre-concert, hype-up jam of his tour had been Bassnectar’s remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Lights”. Didn’t see that one coming in the slightest. It was only a matter of time before he jumped on it himself to lay down a few bars. Keep your eyes open for a mixtape coming from him around Thanksgiving titled Friend Of The People. As always, get educated with the lyrical breakdowns from the minds over at Rap Genius: Lupe Fiasco – Lightwork … Continue reading

Nikki Jean (feat. Lupe Fiasco & Black Thought) – Million Star Motel

This is beyond great. I was only familiar with Nikki Jean from Lupe’s gem “Hip-Hop Saved My Life” off his second album; but it looks like she may have quite the solo career ahead of her. Especially with features like Lupe and Black Thought of The Roots. This jam is just classy as hell; I was into it immediately after a first listen. You’ll dig this one; hit the stream and download below. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Nikki Jean (feat. Lupe Fiasco & Black Thought) – Million Star Motel [via Refined Hype] Tweet

Trae Tha Truth (feat. Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Wale, Wiz Khalifa & MDMA) – I’m On

Holy hell that legitimately took like 3 minutes to type out. I have absolutely no idea how all of these names decided to jump on the same track, but it came together, and to me, the result lives up to expectations. A laid back beat provides the backdrop, and the track manages to capture all of the individual rappers’ talents without being overwhelming. Huge stamp of approval on this one; check it out for yourself below. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Trae Tha Truth (feat. Lupe Fiasco (feat. Kenna) – What U Want

I posted the unfinished version of this over a year ago, and at the time it was thought to be the first confirmed single for Lasers. Well thirteen months later, Lasers is in stores, and this jam is nowhere to be found. I remember being into the spacey beat the first time I heard it a while back, and it feels good to come full circle and see the final product that Lupe meant to put out there. Check it out below. Lupe Fiasco – Lasers (Album Review)

Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers is arguably the most anticipated album of 2011. It’s definitely the most hyped album of the year thus far…I don’t think anyone would argue with that. The controversy surrounding Lupe’s position with Atlantic Records and the fact that this was originally going to be the third and final release of his career both have fueled the hype tremendously (It’s no longer his final album). This past week articles surfaced detailing how he himself hates Lasers. According to him, several of the beats were given to him by people at Atlantic, refusing to release the album unless he … Continue reading
