MGMT – All We Ever Wanted Was Everything (Bauhaus Cover)

A Kanye West muppet show, creepy MGMT covers — let’s keep Thursday weird. The psychedelic duo recently put together a mixtape of sorts, their installment of LateNightTales, which consists of all sorts of bizarre shit. Included in the collection is this cover of “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything” — and if you’re looking to get mellow immediately, this should help your cause. [via Pitchfork] Tweet

MGMT – Congratulations (Erol Alkan Remix)

We posted this original song a while back, and it’s entirely cracked out. Just listening to the original version makes you feel like you’re on some kind of wild acid trip. Jimbo stumbled across this Erol Alkan remix today, and in my opinion it’s 400 times better than the original. All in all, it’s just way more listenable and more friendly to the ears. Give it a shot, let me know what you think. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: MGMT – Congratulations (Erol Alkan Remix) [via] Tweet

MGMT (feat. Lil Wayne) – Someone’s Missing

There’s no denying that MGMT’s second album was weird as hell.  I tried really hard to like it, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.  This little remix to “Someone’s Missing” (brought to you by dj.ck) on the other hand, I can get down with.  Adding a few seconds of Weezy flair has done wonders to this track.  Granted, his appearance lasts for about 20 seconds…but it’s great nonetheless. Unfortunately, he’ll be “missing” until November.  P&P with the find. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: MGMT (feat. Lil Wayne) – Someone’s Missing Tweet

MGMT – Flash Delirium & Congratulations

MGMT is back with the upcoming release of their sophomore album, Congratulations.  (which happens to out-do the Gorillaz new album for the most cracked out album art of all time) The band just released a couple of tracks from their new album, and so far their psychedelic, trippy reputation lives up to our expectations.  Both “Flash Delirium” and “Congratulations” are entirely different from one another, and definitely aren’t in the same upbeat class as “Kids” or “Electric Feel”; the songs that made them the popular band they are today.  “Flash Delirium” is tough to even attempt to describe, so I’ll … Continue reading

Xaphoon Jones – I Wanna Know Now (Bob Marley/MGMT) & Testify (Radiohead/Kanye West)

A couple months ago, Xaphoon Jones of Chiddy Bang (who we’re talking about a lot lately) released The Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol 1, an independent effort.  It’s filled with both creative mashups and original material…and in case you let it slip by, here are two standout tracks that brilliantly blend together entirely different songs.  There’s no way in hell Radiohead’s “Reckoner” and Kanye’s “Touch the Sky” should have anything to do with each other, yet Xaphoon seamlessly fuses the two into one.  The production throughout the whole mixtape is outrageous… download it in it’s entirety HERE. MGMT, meet Chiddy Bang

meet chiddy bang, and his producer xaphoon jones. i always get nervous when a song i love (MGMT – Kids) gets toyed with. i winced when i hit play, expecting the song to be butchered beyond recognition. long story short: i trust xaphoon jones with my life. he remixed the MGMT beat perfectly, and sprinkled on some nice rhythm in the form of chiddy bang. don’t be surprised if you see either name again. you can download xaphoon jones’ first mix tape here for free, which is immediately what i’m going to do once i leave work.
