Throwback Thursdays: Random Edition

Today I felt inspired to drop a random Throwback Thursday post for a couple reasons.  For one, it’s been way too long since we’ve dropped a Throwback Thursday post, and secondly a Guest in the shoutbox posted a link to a dope video of a guy playing 2Pac’s “Changes” on the violin.  A super cool video of one of my favorite songs.  This was the jam back in middle school; there’s no denying it. Throwback Thursday 8.19.10 Edition [Guest Post]

Hello World! Throwback Tony is in the house! I’m old school, so it’s only fitting that I share the songs from back in MY day. Enjoy, and as always, feel free to comment and let me know of anything you feel worthy of “Throwback” status. Alright let’s start this thing. 1.) Jay-Z (feat. Beyonce) – Bonnie & Clyde After reading the Forbes top list of Hip-Hop artists and their successes, I thought it would be only fitting to start off with the #1 man, Mr. Shawn Carter. He made $63 Million this past year, which definitely deserves a round of applause.  So I am … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday: The Chuckness 2.0 Edition

I decided to put together a different kind of Throwback Thursday post this week to celebrate the monumental launch of our new format over here at The Chuckness.  The second I saw the layout that Mike from MadeByGuerilla had put together for us I knew that the font came from my favorite video game ever, Grand Theft Auto III.  Then I remembered driving through Liberty City in my Banshee (that I stole from the car dealership from braking the glass) causing a riot while bumping the crazy throwback jams from the radio station Flashback 95.6.  For those of you who … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday 8/5/2010 Edition

So I just got back from a short trip to Maine where me and Chuck were discussing how we need to bring back Throwback Thursdays, and right when I get in my car driving from Baltimore to D.C.  this classic gem comes on the radio.  This classic from Naughty By Nature is a perfect summer jam to put on and just have a good time to.  The summer is winding down and people will start going back to school soon, but it is always good to keep the summer music bumping.  If you have any other suggestions for throwback summer … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday 6/10/2010 Italian Edition

DJ Lhasa – Giulia Jimbo and I were kicking around some Throwback Thursday ideas this evening, and the thought spawned to do a little Italian dance club edition.  Take a good, hard look at the legend above.  Looks a little goofy, kind of old, awkward stunner shades.  There’s no way he could be responsible for the greatest European club track of all time.  Right?  Right?  Wrong.  DJ Lhasa’s “Giulia” is 2 minutes and 45 seconds of life-altering fury.  I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t fall in love with the song upon one spin.  Two plays and it’s lights out; … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday 5/20/2010 Edition Part 3

Originally I had a different throwback jam up my sleeve for this week, but it’ll have to wait until next week. Chuck and I went off this evening and had a great discussion about how in the year 2000, an album was released that rocked our musical foundations: Funkmaster Flex Volume IV. I remember feeling like the most badass 8th grader the world had ever seen – riding in the back of the bus, flaunting my fresh Sony headphones, and just rocking track after track on this album. Check out some standouts: [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday 5/20/2010 Edition

So recently I have been listening to a lot of Gang Starr and I figured it would only be right to remind yall of the best duo to ever make music in my opinion.  DJ Premier kills it on the boards scratching and sampling while Guru comes with his monotone flow.  So just enjoy the perfect sound that these two created and celebrate the great work they created…..R.I.P. Throwback Thursday 5/13/2010 Edition

I was cruising The Hype Machine and found this stellar throwback jam. Whatever happened to awesome remixes/collaborations? It’s easy to be spoiled by this track, as it features an all-star cast: Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mos Def, and Busta Rhymes. I’m not asking for five hall of fame rappers to appears on all remixes, but everything I’ve heard recently doesn’t hold a candle to this. Throwback Thursday 3/11/2010 Edition

It’s that time of week again; here is another Throwback Thursday for everyone to enjoy.  A couple classics right here that Chuck and I decided would be good to throw up. Annie Lennox – Walkin’ On Broken Glass A classic joint right here that I had not heard in forever.  When I listened to the new Sam Adams EP, he has a song on there where he flipped this track and made it sound super good.  I have the live version here for yall. Throwback Thursday 3/4/2010 Edition; Part 2

The Beatnuts – “We Got The Funk” (2002) My apologies for the Throwback Thursdays lacking recently.  I’m aware it’s many of our fans’ reason for living come Thursday.  I just got a little out of control with it during its peak and I want to space out the throwbacks as much as I can.  I can’t throw too many at you at once, it’ll be too overwhelming. A co-worker of mine turned me onto this smooth track by The Beatnuts, and I haven’t turned back.  “We Got The Funk” samples a late 70s/early 80s track by Rachel Sweet (no idea … Continue reading
