Throwback Thursday 1/21/10 Edition

We were slacking last week when it came to Throwback Thursday, and the people were pissed.  The people being our 10 fans.  I wanted to make sure I threw something at you all this week, so I’ve been digging tirelessly through the archives to come up with three prime throwback gems that you all forgot existed.  All three of these jams are polar opposites of each other, yet each and every one is a banger in it’s own, unique way.  So let’s get it: Go West – King of Wishful Thinking (1990) You gotta love old school album covers.  Two … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday – 1/7/2010 Edition

Ginuwine – Pony (1993) After a holiday hiatus, I was back to digging through the archives today looking for any jams that were worthy of an appearance on Throwback Thursday.  Ginuwine’s “Pony” was staring me right in the face, and I couldn’t resist.  Recorded in 1993, this jam’s beat, which pretty much consists of robotic belches, finds a way to be pure dynamite.  On top of that, the lyrics consist of Ginuwine referring to his manhood as his “pony”…and yet the jam is still fire.  It’s just one of those beats that when dropped, immediately Houdini’s everyone’s clothes away.  I … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday: 12/17/09 Edition, Part 2

This heatstick has flown way too far underneath the radar.  Listen to the opening few seconds, and you’ll think I’m throwing Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie” at you, but think again.  In 1998, the duo of Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz dropped “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)”, and while it should’ve changed the world, it was left underappreciated.  Do us all a favor and drop this baseline real quick, you’ll be gettin loose in no time. Throwback Thursday: 12/17/09 Edition

Today I’m taking everyone back to 1994, when Blues Traveler released their fourth album, appropriately named Four. The album made it #8 on the Billboard charts – not bad for some bros from Princeton, New Jersey. The album became most well known for the track “Run Around” which I’m sure everyone remembers. And that’s why I’m hitting you with the also famous but under appreciated track “Hook” which is just a classic, feel-good jam.  So kick back and enjoy. Throwback Thursday: 12/10/09 Edition, Part 2

I thought this week would be a perfect time to throw this song up for Throwback Thursdays considering the Clipse album just dropped.  This song was huge back when it first came out and it really put Clipse on the  map.  The beat is hands down one of my favorites of all time.  It’s crazy for me to think that “Grindin” came out in 2001 and it’s been 8 years since my football team would warm-up by rockin this beat on our thigh pads…the suburbs of D.C. were mad hood back then, I swear. Throwback Thursday: 12/10/09 Edition

To begin this edition of Throwback Thursday, we’re gonna start it out with one of the most underrated dance floor bangers of all time.  The R&B group Next was able to create an entire song based around the concept of drawing wood while dancing with a fine honey on the dance floor, and it’s beyond brilliant.  Thanks to Next, instead of it being a socially devastating accident, a raging boner on the dance floor has now been accepted by all.  Click play and reminisce with this 1997 beauty.  Props to Decent for the stellar Throwback suggestion. Throwback Thursday Pt. 2

I was blown away by Jimbo’s alliteration skills earlier today, and I felt I needed to follow up his post with some Throwback Thursday tracks of my own.  I am 110% confident that these three jams have never in their lifetime been grouped together, so I’m proud to say that we’re all witnessing history.  Blind Melon, the duo of Joe and Mystikal and The Violent Femmes are one at last. Track 1: [Audio clip: view full post to listen] “No Rain” came up on shuffle out of nowhere during my drive into work today, as if it knew it was … Continue reading

Throwback Thursday – Jurassic 5

I’d like to introduce you to Throwback Thursday. Why? Because we believe that as important as it is to promote and search for the freshest jams out there, it’s important to come back to our roots from time to time – recognize the songs and artists that have shaped our musical taste. And also because the alliteration is undeniable. This week I pay tribute to Jurassic 5. There is not another musical group in existence with as much rhythm as these guys. Sure, they have rhythm individually, but what’s most impressive is their collective rhythm. Every track they put out … Continue reading
